Saving the orangutans with a bar of chocolate? -Yes! The ninth grade of the Martinus
Gymnasium had the opportunity to tell people in their environment about this project,
which they had discussed in their English lessons. Their friends, families or others
could choose between milk and dark chocolate for the price of 2,50€. 1€ of the 2,50 € is
donated to the reconstruction project “Bennis Wald”. “Bennis Wald” is a project to
save the orangutans in Indonesia which are threatened with extinction. With 1€ there
will be a tree planted. All in all, there were 257 trees planted.
The chocolate itself comes from the children´s and youth initiative “Die gute Schokolade”.
If you buy five bars of chocolate, there will be a tree planted in Mexico,
Spain or Ghana. When you open the bar of chocolate, you will see what exactly the
money is used for. 14% of the price, for example, is invested in planting the trees and
18% goes to fair trade. When you look at the side of the chocolate bar, you find a link
informing you where your tree will be planted.
257 bars of chocolate were sold!
The 9b sold the most chocolate bars by far and received a certificate which is a
sponsorship for an orangutan.
This little project was done in cooperation with the Wiedtal – Gymnasium.
